The above link supports much of what I have noted in this blog in the last 7 years, and a few I missed. It follows a pattern of preemption that if leaked, actually caused a preemption cycle of its own. An important question is, how long has this been the policy of this ship of state, and how long has it been leaking. These are not mountains out of mole hills, but trickle down by passing the buck. Investigations must begin, while shoring up the process of accountability. It is not too early to begin the work of transition. But never too late to join a tide of change. And if this metophor seems to imply a washing away, or just another cycle... true. Things will wash a away, but people will still be the point, not the boats and the driftwood.

This was a little deeper and less sorted than I intended, but I must move on.

But Echoes of Watergate:
What did the president know and when did he know it?

But I would ask: What did the president not know and when did he let Cheney know he did not want to know it?
There is more embedded history or future here. [*] The fact that Hillary was a lawyer advising during Watergate as was Fred Thompson.

If the 2004 election was a rehashing of Vietnam, then the 2008 rehash may be about Watergate, if it is Clinton v. Thompson.

Media Likely To Be Blamed

Media is likely to be blamed. It is hard to sort out the facts, http://www.truthout.org/docs_04/080804W.shtml (Unmasking of Qaeda Mole a U.S. Security Blunder-Experts) but with this administration it is a given. However the attention that the release of another intelligence asset will likely be played down or completely clouded before the end of the Republican convention.

The raised terror alert and other attempts to take a Democratic bounce out of the picture are seen in a different light given the results of the release of too much information. The need to explain the terror alert given the natural mistrust for the administration contradicts the campaign mantra that results count. The placing of politics above security and intelligence may have come back to bite them again.
